Among the most significant challenges in the packaging market—an industry that has been pursuing sustainable solutions for years—is the study of materials. Innovative packaging design, which reduces material usage and volume while lowering CO2 emissions and waste production, is paired with the pursuit of increasingly green packaging that still ensures the same level of protection in any market it enters. Research pathways explore all packaging materials, identifying the best solutions to maximize their properties, ensuring food safety, the stability and efficacy of pharmaceutical molecules, protection during transportation, and proper preservation at every stage of the process.

IPACK-IMA: A Privileged Observatory on Innovation

Innovation in packaging materials will take center stage at IPACK-IMA, scheduled at Fiera Milano Rho from May 27 to 30, 2025. Over 200 companies will enhance the event with specialized offerings in eco-friendly and smart materials, addressing sustainability and production efficiency needs.

This wealth of expertise will once again be showcased at the event, with the IPACK-Mat brand—Packaging Materials for Product Development. This initiative aims to make it easy to identify companies offering primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging materials, either exclusively or in combination with machinery and systems, across the exhibition halls.

From materials that ensure food waste reduction and food security, the connection with certifications becomes inevitable and essential. For this reason, the Ipack Ima Lab—Solutions for Product Testing & Certification section will be reinstated, providing space for laboratories, certification institutes, and research centers specializing in quality and compliance testing related to MOCA regulations (materials and objects in contact with food). This initiative focuses on companies that guarantee the highest quality standards, offering concrete support to the R&D phase.

A network of selected and accredited companies will conduct specific tests on material barrier properties. These companies will have dedicated spaces, tailored stands, and the opportunity to deliver presentations within the event’s program. Ipack Ima Lab will thus act as a cutting-edge laboratory for packaging within IPACK-IMA.
