With a liquid silicone application on a BOY XS, the German machine manufacturer BOY presents itself at the Deutsche Kautschuk Tagung (DKT, 27th to – 30th June) in Nuremberg.
In a close cooperation between BOY and the Application-Centre for Plastics Processing UNIpace (part of the Institute for Materials Technology at the University of Kassel), medical technology stoppers for syringes will be manufactured from a Wacker two-component liquid silicone SILPURAN® 600/50 on booth 514 in hall 9. This application example is the consistent realization of UNIpace’s targets to more closely combine scientific research in the field of plastics processing with the practical production of injection moulded parts for the medical technology.
The BOY XS injection moulding machine, designed for continuous industrial operation, does not only impress with its capacity of 100 kN clamping force, but also with a special silicone unit for the BOY XS. This unit with a 14 mm screw diameter has a more precise, spring-loaded ball non-return valve. The Procan ALPHA machine control system handles the precise process cycle of the valve gate nozzle, cold runner and silicone pump. The directly next to the machine located LSR-pump (20 l capacity) of the company EMT Dosiertechnik feeds the two silicone components into the four-cavity mould via a mini cold-runner-system of the company Günther Heisskanaltechnik GmbH. After a cycle time of 25 seconds, the finished and approx. 180° C hot LSR- parts (0.5 g shot weight each) are removed from the mould area by means of a stripper plate and then safely collected in the integrated stainless steel drawer of the BOY XS.
The professional processing of silicones – both in liquid and solid physical state – has been one of BOY’s core competences for many years. Thus, many of the machine models from the BOY product range are available for these application areas.
